Remembering Heritage at Draper Days Parade

DRAPER, Utah (ABC 4 Utah) ? The floats lined up one by one Saturday morning to make the trek down Fort Street in Draper. Drawing in cheers from both the young and young at heart.

"We're being big kids. We have to collect as much candy as we can for the little kids," says Jack Hutcheon.

Just ask the kids. It's the best part of the parade.

"Um, how they are throwing out all the candy," says eight year old, Zoe.

In fact the candy is such an attraction one family has a strategic plan to make sure they are targeted.

"We have a family organization here that creates signs that attract attention, so hopefully passers by will hit us with candy," says Christy Haymond.

The allure goes beyond the sweet treats. It?s also a chance to honor our country, firefighters and those who came before us.

?I just am so thankful for the pioneers and the heritage they have provided us," says Ranae Fennema.

A tradition more than 20 years in the making for some local families, as they reflect on how far this annual celebration has come.

"Brings back the tradition of a small town and reminds us of what draper used to be instead of a metropolis," says Delane Hutcheon.
