Former UF DB Willie Bailey has transferred to UofL
Former Florida cornerback Willie Bailey has enrolled at Louisville for the spring semester.
A 6-0, 172-pound defensive back from Hallandale, FL., Bailey, who enrolled at UF last January, redshirted and didn't play this season for the Gators. After sitting out next season, Bailey will have three years of eligibility remaining.
Coming out of high school, Bailey was rated the No. 53 safety prospect in the nation by 247Sports, and was considered a Top 100 prospect in Florida. He was named to the Super 75 by the Times-Union. As a senior, Bailey recorded 81 tackles, two interceptions, four blocked kicks and two kickoff returns for TD.
"He doesn't look it, but he's physical -- he's a hitter," Dameon Jones, Bailey's former coach, told 247Sports. "Willie is a lockdown corner -- but also played some safety for us. He's rangy, can move, good hips. He's loud-mouthed on the field, but off-the-field he's quiet, and doesn't talk a whole lot."
Bailey is the fourth former Florida player to transfer to Louisville under Charlie Strong, joining departing DB Adrian Bushell (via junior college), WR Robert Clark and TE Gerald Christian. Christian and Clark sat out this season and will be eligible to play next season.
Like Christian and Clark, Bailey will be able to practice for Louisville while he sits out his mandatory NCAA residency year following his transfer from Florida.
