Thinking of flying somewhere for Thanksgiving? The holiday might seem like a long time from now, but travel experts say now's a good time to buy?before flights fill up and fares inevitably rise. SmartMoney offers some tips for planning your Thanksgiving travel.
Fares are already up 6% compared to last year and Thanksgiving-week flights are already "reasonably booked" according to CheapAir.com. If you want to travel on the busiest days for this holiday?the Wednesday before Thanksgiving or the Sunday or Monday after, you should lock in your flight.
If you have more flexibility and can take the risk, you could wait until early October to book one of the off-peak days?Thanksgiving Day and the Saturday after.
Also, during hellish holiday travel, it might pay to upgrade to first or business class. It might not even cost that much if you search with ITA Software's Matrix.
