Kieron Pollard took the game away from us, says Tom Moody ? Cricket News Update
Hyderabad Sunrisers head coach Tom Moody on Monday hailed Mumbai Indian?s all-rounder Kieron Pollard saying his side had almost won the match before the West Indian pinch hitter took the game away from them.
Chasing a challenging target of 179 to win, Rohit Sharma led Mumbai Indians were struggling at 99 for 3 in the 14th over before the hard hitting Trinidad batsman came in and snatched victory for his team from the jaws of defeat. Pollard played a blistering knock of 66 not out of just 27 balls to take Mumbai home with seven wickets three balls to spare.
While speaking to media reporters after the defeat, Hyderabad coach Tom Moody admitted that they were disappointed to lose a match after once being in the driving seat.
?Of course we are disappointed. We won 80 per cent of the game, but Mumbai are undefeated here at home,? said Moody at the post match press conference on Monday.
The visiting coach was, however, happy to see his side posting a challenging total of 178 for 3.
?We have been criticised throughout the tournament how poorly we have batted and I think we showed people we are capable with the bat," said the Hyderabad coach.
"I think we had more than a competitive total on that surface but there was one bloke (Pollard) who got in our way, it is as simple as that," Moody went on to add.
Shikhar Dhawan played a magnificent half century knock (59 off 41) to help the side post a respectable total. Dhawan was well complemented by Hanuma Vihari (41 off 37) and skipper Cameron White (43 not out, off 23).
In reply, the tourists conceded 50 runs in just two overs (17th and 18th over of Mumbai?s chase, bowled by Thisara Perera and Amit Mishra respectively). Moody, however, did not agree that those two expensive overs cost them the match.
"I don't agree that Thisara's over (29 runs) cost us the match at all. When you are on a good surface, when there is big total being scored, there is going be an over or two that are going to be expensive. That was an expensive over but I think the focus needs to be more on Pollard's hitting," he explained.
