DECATUR, Ga - Barack Obama's visit to Decatur drew hundreds of people, including many who never had a chance of seeing the President.
Sycamore Street in front of the Decatur Recreation Center where President Obama spoke was crowded with people hoping for a picture or maybe an autograph.
For most of them, it wasn't to be.
"It's my birthday tomorrow," said one onlooker. "I'm going to soak it all in and enjoy this day."
On sidewalk, there were the people kept on the opposite side of the Recreation Center.
On the other side, hundreds stood in line hoping to get inside. Diane Luce knew she would likely be turned away.
"Just just getting this close, showing up and letting him know we support him, that's all that matters," said Luce.
Others were provided tickets to hear the President speak. State Representative Karla Drenner was an invited guest.
"He thinks we should have universal pre-K programs, and I would concur with that," said Drenner.
9-year-old Hannah Choi and three friends were invited inside as winners of Coretta Scott King leadership awards.
"Basically, we helped people," said Choi. "we showed you don't have to be friends with people to be nice to them."
"It's pretty important," said 9-year-old Mia Journey Arnold. "He is the President of the United States, and it's a once in a lifetime opportunity."
An opportunity extended to mom.
"I get to see the President because of my girls," said Roz Arnold. "It's nothing I did."
